Growly Dog Foundations Class

Our leash reactive dog foundations class focuses on building a strong relationship between the owner & the dog, teaching essential skills for managing reactivity, and empowering owners to continue training and support beyond the class setting

Understanding leash reactivity:

  • Definition of leash reactivity and its common triggers.
  • Recognizing signs of stress and anxiety in dogs.
  • Understanding the impact of leash tension on dog behavior.

Positive reinforcement training principles:

  • Basics of positive reinforcement training.
  • Using rewards effectively to modify behavior.
  • Importance of timing and consistency in training.

Desensitization and counterconditioning techniques:

  • Gradual exposure to triggers at a manageable distance.
  • Pairing triggers with positive experiences and rewards.
  • Creating a positive association with previously stressful stimuli.

Management strategies:

  • Techniques for managing reactivity during walks.
  • Using equipment such as front-clip harnesses or head halters.
  • Setting up controlled environments for training.

Handling skills for owners:

  • Techniques for staying calm and confident during reactive episodes.
  • Proper leash handling to minimize tension and communicate effectively.
  • Reading canine body language to anticipate reactions.

Building focus and engagement:

  • Games and exercises to increase focus and engagement with the owner.
  • Teaching the dog to check in with the owner during walks.
  • Incorporating interactive toys and activities into training sessions.

Owner support and resources:

  • Providing resources for further reading and learning about canine behavior.
  • Offering support and guidance for managing reactivity outside of class.
  • Creating a supportive community for owners to share experiences and advice.

Tuition: $510

NINE 60-minute sessions to be completed in 5 weeks.

Class Format:

Zoom Orientation
FIVE 60-minute group class sessions.
FOUR 60-minute Zoom sessions to troubleshoot practice work

Mountain View – Class starts April 20th 2024
